If you want to paint a wall or ceiling, you should be equipped with a set of essential tools so you can complete your project smoothly with a perfect, satisfying result. You do not need to buy every painting tool, as each painting project has its own tools that can differ from the required tools of other projects. For example, the required tools for applying a decorative paint can be different from the ones used to apply solid color paints or even another decorative paint.
Masking Tape.
Use adhesive tape that is especially made for painting jobs, known as a masking tape or painter's tape, and not the stationery tape made for paper, why?
The difference is that stationery tape can be difficult to remove if it stays too long on the wall, unlike masking tape, which does not affect the wall and is easy to remove even if it stays on for a long time. Sometimes, masking tape and stationery tape can look quite similar, so make sure you have picked the right type.

If you don't have any other option than to use a normal adhesive tape, you could use it but you will need to remove it immediately once you're done.
Putty Knife.
Putty knife has many uses, and comes in different sizes and shapes according to your need. One of its main uses is to apply putty on the wall. It is a stage done before painting. However, this is not the only use of a putty knife. It is also used in filling and covering cracks and holes on the wall. You can use a putty knife to help remove dried paint residue on the floor or even remove the paint layer on wooden surfaces.
Paint Roller.

With low-quality rollers, the paint does not get picked up well and some of the roller fuzz or fluff can stick to the wall during the painting process. Moreover, the inside of the roller frame may be made of cardboard instead of durable plastic, which makes cleaning your roller after finishing the painting process almost impossible. Most paint technicians recommend using a natural bristle brush. This is because the synthetic bristle brush is of lower quality and may not pick up the paint well and the falling brush hair might stick to the wall while painting.
Now, what are the uses of a paintbrush?
The brush is often used for small surfaces or narrow areas or when working on wooden surfaces.
Paint Tray.
If the size of the paint drum is large and you want to paint only a small area, it is better in this case to use a paint tray as it can help extend the life of the remaining paint in the drum. Also, if you want to use a roller, it is better to use a paint tray so the paint covers the roller evenly and it picks up the right amount without splattering. Just pour some paint in the tray and dip your roller. Then, roll it repeatedly on the tray until your roller is covered with paint.
